Album review: ’100 Proof’ by Kellie Pickler

“100 Proof” is the third country album by the American singer Kellie Pickler.

Released to stores nationwide on Jan. 24, 2012, “100 Proof” is her first album and collaboration with her new producers with Frank Liddell and Luke Wooten, Lee Ann Womack and fellow country singer, Miranda Lambert.

The aspiring singer had stimulating potential early on in life. In 2005, the Louisiana-born landed a spot in season five of American Idol and charmed viewers nationwide. Although she finished in sixth place, the North Carolina-raised blonde was offered to sign to 19 Recordings and BNA Records under the exclusive license of Sony Music Nashville. Soon after, in 2006, the incoming country artist released her debut album, “Small Town Girl” and proceeded to sell over 800,000 copies and became gold. The Southern-native released her self-titled album in 2008. Her latest album is filled with fresh, new songs for her waiting country fans after over three years. In 2010, the Miss North Carolina contestant was named the seventh best American Idol alumna. Altogether, the American Idol runner-up has sold over 100,000 copies of her country albums. Both country albums reached number nine on the top 10 of The Billboard 200.

Her latest album features 12 differently individualistic and sprightly tracks, an iTunes LP with an abundant amount of personal photos, all reflecting her enthusiastic and charismatic personality,

The album’s title track, “100 Proof” is an exemplary country style song only with a personal and vivacious twist.

The album’s first single, “Tough” and is definitely the album’s most upbeat track with corrosive lyrics featuring strong acoustic rhythms with a snappy attitude, the vehement lyrics grip the tension throughout the song. While all the songs have energetic attitude, it is “Tough” that has the most vigorous rhythms and strongest lasting impression.

“100 Proof” include the hit songs, “Stop Cheatin’ On Me” and “Unlock That Honky Tonk” that not only tackle relationships but also dig down deep into her country roots.

The Southern singer “proves” her self-reliant and sharp attitude through her newest album. Her carefree personality and powerful voice especially with her distinct Southern accent is extremely influential as a country artist, songwriter and celebrity. The “tough” country girl shows her vast emotional depth and intensity as a singer as well as a songwriter through her modern and bright musical talents. The passionate country musician has been known to be independent as are many country artists. What gives this country girl her unique individuality is her charming personality and lively spirit.

The album also contains a few acoustic tracks such as “Long As I Never See You Again”, “Turn On the Radio and Dance”, “Rockway”.

Other vibrant songs on the album are “Little House On the Highway” and “Where’s Tammy Whynette”.

The hard country music tones down for the ballads, “Mother’s Day” and “The Letter”.

The album has an exclusive bonus track, “Arm Candy” is an extra ebullient song.

The album features music and lyrics which have a fiery vibe throughout the record.

“100 Proof” recently debuted at number seven on top 10 of The Billboard 200 and has received the highest chart position of her musical career so far.

My rating for Kellie Pickler’s album “100 Proof” is eight out of 10.

The incipient singer’s compelling country voice has engulfed her songs with a talented, energetic edge.
