Opera Theatre debuts with favorites

The SCSU Opera Theatre debuted its first feature performance of the semester, “Scenes from Favorite Operas,” a series of short scenes from classic operas with a piano accompaniment.

The evening’s performance was directed by SCSU Music Department faculty member Hugh Givens. Givens chose the specific scenes and operas.

In scene two of Otto Nicolai's "The Merry Wives of Windsor" Jaclyn Potvin plays Mrs. Page and Sharisse Germain plays Mrs. Ford

“Obviously, they’re very entertaining,” said Givens. “They have comic elements, and they’re very good pieces for audiences. But mainly . . . they are accessible to young singers. Mozart is very good for young singers, and so we like to do a lot of Mozart.”
